Students will learn about DNA transcription and translation as fundamental processes in gene expression and protein synthesis, understanding how mRNA is created from DNA and then translated into proteins. They will explore the role of these processes in cancer development, focussing on how genetic mutations disrupt normal cell function and lead to cancer. The curriculum also covers gene therapy, including its principles, delivery methods, and applications in treating genetic disorders and cancer. Students will integrate these topics to understand how defects in genetic processes contribute to disease and how gene therapy offers innovative treatment possibilities, while also addressing ethical and safety considerations.

DNA Replication DNA replication is the process of producing two identical copies from one original DNA molecule. It occurs in the S phase of the cell cycle before cell division.
